I support the 50501 movement and have participated in marches here in Austin each time. I am afraid that the January 30th Walk Out will be a failure and will not make a big impact statement. The individuals affected most by Trump policies can't "walk out". Teachers, day care workers, hospital employees, store employees, etc. Many of these potential participants can't afford to leave their job. As we have seen in past peaceful protests, the marches have grown larger each time. I fear that the walk out will be scantly represented, and appear as a failure to Trump and his henchmen.

Cristina, the date is January 20th; you can take the kids out for a planned nature walk and return to class to write or act or mime or draw what they liked seeing without touching?

Thanks for the recap of the actual economic impact on regular folks.

We were all led to believe that tariffs would tank the economy. They haven't. In fact, the equity markets are at all time highs. Inflation remains high, yet it doesn't seem to have reduced consumption. The unemployment rate is 4.6%, which at one time was considered full employment. I remember during the first Obama administration that businesses were concerned and not investing in growth because of "uncertainty". Yet there is zero concern about that now. Gasoline prices are down. It feels that the economy is being manipulated by those with great wealth who control the means of production. The "free market" has become an illusion. Monopolies -- Amazon, anyone? -- rule. The system we were taught to believe in has failed. If there is still any justice, it is random. We need to think in new ways.

Hopefully, this shall be successful. More marches, more protests, more parades, till the Orange and its minions are thrown out, before they produce more damage. Your colleague 🌈 Lance Trottier 🌈 published yesterday an article about the frightening future of Trump-named monuments.
