The vision of democracy that prevails among
federal judges, or even in the Supreme Court, may not actually promote broad citizen participation or accountability.
Instead, more archaic and exclusionary theories of power and community might reemerge.
Under such conditions, judges behave like more traditional political actors and see legal disputes over democracy through a partisan lens rather than by applying doctrines fairly and consistently.
Outcomes are increasingly likely to turn on which party benefits from the outcome of legal disputes rather than what keeps the political order
healthy or is best for the common good.
The Supreme Court's recent interest in the so-called "independent state legislature theory" should send chills down the spine of anyone committed to a democratic order that respects each citizen's vote. That theory would permit a state legislature to subvert the will of a majority of the state's voters after the fact and sharply limit a state judiciary's ability to protect the vote.
6 of 9 SCOTUS justices granted him complete, blanket immunity from prosecution for any crimes he commits while in office. So OF COURSE he is defying them with another tariff. If you think there are any real checks on his power, you're sadly mistaken.
Mr. Trump will certainly bankrupt America. His only success in life is bankruptcy. There are no boundaries on his corruption. His toadies dance in delight as they suck up power in his shadow. This amoral administration is a travesty of principled government. America has become a pariah in the global establishment. As such, it will be best for the world to turn its back on us. We deserve it. Once we can demonstrate our sincere concern for humanity by electing progressive representation to govern our country, then we shall be worthy of recognition. Until then, we will sink further into the cesspool Trump has created for us. Epstein is only the tip of the iceberg.
“Refund $175 Billion illegally taken from Us” may be a rallying cry. Even though it’s unlikely to happen, it’s a reminder we were robbed by this regime.
