I believe the big one is going to be at Father Duffy Sq. (47th and B'way) 11 - 1.

Although from 10 - 11 there's going to be some art related protest at Bryant.

I'll see you there!

We need a top-level opposition council comprised of reps from all the disparate groups.

Without strategic planning and cooperation/collaboration, we cannot succeed with more complex actions than one-day protests. But to defeat maga, we need effective boycotts, work actions, and non-violent civil disobedience. These all require more organization than we currently have.

Mark Elias (and others) keep talking about the need to grow a long-term opposition movement (as opposed to our short-term resistance). It seems that at least a few groups are rallying behind the 'No Kings' banner. That could be a start, but we need much more and we need it yesterday.

I hope leadership emerges to take up this challenge in earnest.

We're working on something like this. Getting the groups on the same page and rebrand the Democratic Party under a slim platform everyone can get behind. A platform that can bring in Independents. A platform actually based on liberty and justice for all.

Sounds good! Is the "we're working" just Article Zero or are opposition groups weighing in directly? I'm all for Dem Party reform, but I'm urgently interested in opposition group cooperation/collaboration so we can effectively engage in more complex actions. I listen to Leah Greenberg (Indivisible) every week talk about how they aren't ready for boycotts -- I know she's right, but I want to be ready NOW ;-)

Streamlining co-operation and communication among as many opposition groups as possible is our first priority. We're just getting started though, and folks are understandably hesitant. We're trying to work with as many as we can.

The fragmented effort of so many folks doing the same or very similar work on diverse focused issues divides everyone's energy and, as a strategy, is weak in the face of the streamlined solidarity of maga.

We believe this is where the Democratic Party has failed. This is their purpose of existence, to streamline effort.

We're not asking anyone to give up their identity, abandon their efforts, or diminish their work. Just to work together until we can defeat the maga cult and make some much-needed changes to the system so this can never happen again.

However things work out in the end we'll be right there, on board.

That's more like what I've been lobbying for, but my individual efforts have fallen on mostly deaf organizational ears (individuals have agreed though). I've tried to do the same at local level with same result.

I'll watch your Substack for next steps, but I'm not an organizer.

We appreciate the support. Right now, help spread the word and, now you've got some literature and a movement to back up your efforts. We're working on a "Talking points" document for the movement as a whole that should also help.

My husband and I will be in Indianapolis! I love the party atmosphere in Portland - the antithesis of an angry destructive mob. I would love to bring my grandchildren to protests and rallies, but the chanting of Fuck Trump or Fuck anybody is not something I want to teach. The time for that type of anger is over. Now is time for determined, focused action and to combine that with joy will make power.

Oh I'm going, so is my sister my cousins and anyone I can convince to rally against Trump.
