On April 29, the Supreme Court dealt a major blow to Section 2 of the Voting Rights Act. In a 6-3 ruling in Louisiana v. Callais, the Court held that the Act did not require the state to create an additional majority-minority congressional district, making it far harder for voters of color to challenge maps that dilute their political power.
Within days, Louisiana’s governor suspended the state’s ongoing primary election to redraw congressional maps.
Alabama immediately filed to reinstate maps a lower court had struck down for diluting Black votes.
One ruling has already landed. Another is coming. The Supreme Court is expected to decide Trump v. Barbara, the birthright citizenship case, by late June or early July.
Both decisions will frame the weeks leading up to the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence.
The administration has its own plan for the anniversary. They are calling it “Freedom 250.” Its official program includes mobile “Freedom Trucks” touring American history through 48 states, a Great American State Fair on the National Mall, and UFC Freedom 250 at the White House. But the story being told through these events is not the full story America needs. It’s a version of the founding that skips the parts where people had to fight, and bleed, and organize for decades to make the founding’s promises apply to them.
While the government stages a celebration built around that incomplete story, organizers across the country are building something else.
On June 27th, 2026
Americans across the country will march, rally, and gather for All of U.S. 250, a national day of action supported by Get Free, 50501-aligned partners, Political Revolution, and organizers across the broader No Kings ecosystem.
The 250th anniversary of this country doesn’t belong to any administration.
It belongs to every generation that fought to close the distance between what America promised and what it actually delivered. The abolitionists who forced a reckoning with enslavement. The suffragists who spent decades fighting for the vote. The civil rights marchers who bled for the protections the Supreme Court is now taking apart, piece by piece. The disability rights activists, the labor organizers, the immigrant communities who insisted that the word “all” in our founding documents should actually mean all.
Federal agencies have been scrubbing civil rights history from government websites and programs.
Funding for cultural institutions that tell the full-American story is being slashed. School curricula are being rewritten to remove the chapters that complicate a narrative of unbroken triumph.
All of U.S. 250 is an affirmative response. On June 27th, we show up for the full truth of this country.

Where this stands
The Supreme Court has already weakened one of the Voting Rights Act’s most important protections. States are already moving to redraw maps in ways that reduce the political power of Black and Latino voters. The birthright citizenship case is still pending. And the administration is planning a 250th anniversary celebration that tells a version of the American story with the struggle left out.
You’re here. You’e paying attention. And on June 27th, you can be part of one of the largest affirmation of what this country is that the anniversary will see.
