My son is 14 and has a seizure disorder and is non speaking and non mobile. I honestly do not believe he would survive long in an institution because when he becomes sick he is really deathly sick. Keeping him at home keeps him away from those congregant setting germs.

He currently receives Medicaid and home based services through a waiver. Because of the intensity of his care needs I cannot work and don't anticipate that will ever change.

I am so sick of the rhetoric from the GOP around these cases. Frankly, I think they'd be content to see people like my son die in a ditch. Although even better if their friends in the private prison/institutionalization businesses get to make a buck off him first.

Looks like a return to racial hygienics to me.

Once again our amoral administration reveals itself as the enemy of humanity and the champion of ignorance and avarice. American society is no longer a civilization of compassion. We are allowing ourselves to be represented by the most callous and conceited bunch of incompetent individuals imaginable. They cannot be replaced fast enough! A darkness is covering our country, throwing integrity and principles aside to favor the worst elements of human conduct. At an anniversary of 250 years to bring enlightenment to the world, we deserve better than what is on offer by these cretins.

Great articulation of the problem! Especially that Americans have an amoral administration! Are you a writer?!

Thank you for your reply. Your compliment is appreciated. I'm more a frustrated writer than an actual writer since I put my opinions on website forums and no other mediums. I am grateful to know there are others who share my views and respond. By the way, I am also a cat person.

As a woman with Autism, I am disgusted and angry that they’re trying to do this. Thanks for calling this out.

Make those with the least power suffer in order to minimize taxation of the wealthy. Predictable? Absolutely.

If I live to be 100, I will never understand how millions of Americans could have been so astoundingly ignorant or hard-hearted that they voted to return this administration to power.

This has implications beyond the elderly. It will stretch to prison releasees needing a place to be released to. Can see where their housing could be grouped under some category of temporary disability, the way government does things.

But, this is such stealth, how can j.q. public make any type of meaningful interjection before the damage is irreversibly done? Ideas?

Oh my God! We need to stop this in it boots right now. Call email. Let everybody know that this is happening

This is a wonderful plan. First deport all the health care workers to Haiti so there is no employees to take care of patients in institutions then force disabled into same institutions. Next we will need Congressional oversight as care will look like detention centers. I'm pretty sure Hitler did this too.

Excellent analysis. When combined with the push for "assisted dying" (euthanasia or assisted suicide) this adds up to yet another chapter in the eugenics practiced against disabled people. The HCBS cuts fall disproportionately on BIPoC as well, as do medical triage policies. Check out my substack, as well as Steven Thrasher's "The Viral Underclass", and Harriet A. Washington's "Medical Apartheid" books.
