Remaining silent will not do. Waiting for others to speak out in protests does not absolve you of your responsibility. Defending freedoms requires actions from all of us who recognize the dangers this amoral administration represents. Our country has faced threats before and we did not back down. We must resolve now to soundly defeat the present threat because it's from within, not from abroad. For this is the most insidious attack of all: our own fellow Americans are attempting to place the nation under the control of a dictator. These are the actions of traitors to the definition of America. We must not allow them to succeed.

Well said. Silence just protects those consolidating power.

I agree whole heartedly! But pacing back and forth with a sign just makes them laugh at us. Action is necessary, I agree, but it must be action that will make them think twice.

Always appreciate the words of encouragement you guys put out. I've always believed that peaceful protests do exactly what you laid out. My problem now, is that tRump could care less how many people protest. He just does not care. He is going to do exactly what he wants to do, with no regards or consideration to what we want. That is what makes protesting seem so futile. I'm hoping that things get better, I haven't lost that. I don't know, just feeling helpless, and I don't like it.

I fully understand this feeling. Another good reason to protest is that it shows how many people truly care. Many of the No Kings protests will have booths set up where people can learn how to get involved to help their communities so they can plug into groups they didn't know about.

It's incredible how many groups there are that have ground breaking ideas and strategies but just not enough people know about them to get the support they need which is another reason to show up to No Kings, to explore the booths and groups and hear what they have to say.

I think of it this way: I'm not doing it to influence "him", I'm doing it to show his enablers that there IS a resistance watching them and ready to hold them accountable. And to show people who are fearful and feel isolated in their red neighborhoods that there are more of us than they might realize and they can share their voice too. Because,as these studies show, that does move us toward progress.

In normal times I would totally agree with you. I've been to every protest march so far and I will be going to the one on the 28th. But these aren't normal times. Normal administrations respect the populace enough to be afraid of protests. But not now. I would love to see a protest grow into something bigger and better. It is good to be among people with similar ideas, trying to make a better future for us and our children. Maybe I'm just impatient, that's all. Thank you for your response, though.

The patience part is definitely the hard part! And I understand where you are coming from too!

If this does not morph into a general strike within the next month, then I’m out. This feel good shit only works if it leads to direct action that cripples the regime, including the oligarchs who fund it all. General Strike, Occupy Congress, coordinated immigrant Underground Railroad- get to gettin!

The 50501 Movement's avatar

General Strikes take a lot of organizing. Many groups and organizers have been building toward it but they need a lot more support. General Strike US, for example, who seems to have the largest support right now has phases planned: organizing people first, building coalitions, preparing the plan, then finalizing demands with strike funds, mutual aid, and legal support in place before asking millions to act. Massive protests like No Kings help people find this information since many groups highlight actions like these for people to get involved with while they're at the event: https://generalstrikeus.com/

Thank you for the information. I want to put my time and energy into stopping the American Nazi Party.

Sure, help w ice watch etc. but hard no to occupying Congress. That would just give him an excuse to declare a national emergency. He may not need an excuse but don't give him one.

He will do as he wants regardless. Only death will stop him.

Y’all might want to read this because they have a point 🤷‍♂️👇

The No Kings protest scheduled for March 28, a Saturday, isn’t meaningful action. It’s a Fuck Trump block party. Which, by itself, might be a fun thing to do. But it doesn’t result in getting what we want. If it was truly meaningful, the protest would be mid-week in combination with a call for a general strike by every union in the country, particularly the air traffic controllers and flight attendants. And it wouldn’t just be one day. It would be multiple days, maybe even weeks with the goal of shutting down the economy. We need to think of meaningful action as holding the flow of money in this country hostage, to be released only when our demands are met.

Where can I get that Follow up graphic?

To respond to David. I agreee that protesting by itself is not enough, and no it will never change Trump or his MAGA's. Getting HIM to change isnt the point. The point is getting all of the rest of us to change, to remember that we have power. Let our legislators see that we arent backing down and we expect them not to either. And sure he may laugh at us, but what really seemed to happen at the last NO KINGS was that he got angry because he knows this isn't working out the way he wants. I think what we saw in Minnesota is peaceful protest can be painful, even deadly, and they may need to be long term, but using our bodies to stand up for what we believe is not futile.

I believe the SAVE Act is intended to tie-up the Senate from Epstein and Iran, but the backup plan includes intentional chaos within select districts, key states during the midterms. What action is planned DURING No Kings protest in those key states and districts to ensure we’re being proactive and not reactive?

Most of us are not close to any governmental lever of power, but we still have agency. Together, we can shape our future destiny. We had assumed that the foundational principles of this country would stand in perpetuity without our vigilance. We were wrong. We are now living in a world that has long been experienced by the disenfranchised and marginalized.

The clear and immediate task before us is to make No Kings Day 3, on Saturday, March 28, the largest single-day demonstration in U.S. history. In his newsletter on March 16, Trump in Retreat, Robert Hubbell pointed out that “(Trump) is weak, desperate, and cornered. Now is the time to ratchet up the pressure through political protests larger than any ever seen in American history.”

If we want to save our democracy, we each must assist in reclaiming it and work to restore our founding dream. None of us are obligated to complete this restoration process on our own, but neither can we ignore our responsibility to participate in its renewal.

They are already starting.. trying in one instance I know of to have “reduced noise zones” where a visibility protest is held weekly in front of a Tesla dealership.

The 50501 Movement's avatar

That's exactly how it starts, with small restrictions and making visible dissent harder or easier to push out of sight. People should pay attention to these local moves.
