If the millions of people protesting around America and the world can't get the message across to the Republican Congress, then I don't know what can. The Republicans aren't listening and/or they are too afraid to care. Why they are holding out is beyond our beliefs. It's Beyond ridiculous

RESIST | FIGHT's avatar

That’s what makes it so damning.

Millions of people can be in the streets and it still means nothing if the people protecting this refuse to break with him.

This may have been covered before but if the 25th amendment is invokeď, doesn’t that give us VP Vance as President? How is he any better? Isn’t he a product of the Heritage Foundation and Project 2025? He may not be the foul demented man the president is but he is still a danger to our democracy.

Personally I'd prefer tgey use

Article II, Section 4 of the U.S. Constitution establishes the grounds and process for removing federal officials, stating that the President, Vice President, and all civil officers shall be removed upon impeachment and conviction of treason, bribery, or other high crimes and misdemeanors. This section ensures accountability for federal officers.

Key Aspects of Article II, Section 4:

Targeted Officials: Applies to the President, Vice President, and "civil Officers of the United States" (excluding members of Congress and military officers).

Impeachable Offenses: Limited to Treason, Bribery, or "other high Crimes and Misdemeanors".

Removal Mechanism: Requires a House impeachment (majority vote) followed by a Senate conviction (two-thirds vote).

Purpose: The clause balances the need for an independent executive with the necessity of accountability for serious misconduct, including abuse of power or neglect of duty.

BUT I know it's extremely difficult ad the Republicans wouldn't do it because of jeopardizing themselves

They do not realize they are jeopardizing themselves now by being cowards

jumble's avatar

The I agree with you totally, that would be the easiest way. Not that it was easy, but better...JD is an idiot, he would never invoked the 25th...😡

Erin Perry's avatar

This argument is pointless, and probably from a bot. Now isn't the time to look around for a perfect alternative. Removal now.

David A Bell's avatar

I agree that Vance is not the greatest replacement and his stated beliefs are concerning, but he at one point hated Trump and stated so. Right now he’s definitely under Trumps thumb as are many others surrounding Trump. But I think if they can remove Trump we will at least have a shot at a more stable Administration….not great but better. Even Rubio at one point also knew Trump was nuts.

RESIST | FIGHT's avatar

Yes — under the 25th, Vance would become acting president, and that is exactly why so many people see it as a containment move, not a cure.

It would remove one immediate danger, but it would not erase the machinery or the agenda behind him.

Deb Chrystal's avatar

While that is true… THE CONSTITUTION!! Needs to be followed and HE IS UNFIT!

Patricia Davis's avatar

Although I believe there are solid grounds for the 25th Amendment, I do not believe it is the best or the most permanent path forward. Something MUST be done by Congress. They MUST act.

The first thing they must do is end the war. They have that power and they must do it. Along with that action, they must impeach, convict, and remove this president from office. Both of those things can be done quickly. Finally, they must investigate everything and DOJ must prosecute all crimes committed by anyone, but especially the President and his cabinet.

Only by doing these things will government balance be restored. And only by doing these things will we start to rebuild trust with the world. Send a strong message that lawlessness will not stand.

💯 agreed. 25th’s a terrible idea! Cuz 1) Shady Couch worse, 2) drümpf gets 3 weeks in power before removal to foment civil war. Please read @MilesTaylor's article linked below for deets on why 25th was avoided inside drümpf #1. I also worry if he's deemed insane & incompetent: he'll have an escape hatch from accountability. Impeachment’s better, Art 2 Sec 4, but 1st: We The People must ALL work on #FreeAndFairElections that are #TooBigToRig! once dems take house & senate: 1st impeach couch, then malignant 🍊, then dems get full control 🤞💙🌊🇺🇸🙏🏻‼️

🧚🏽‍♂️LINK FAIRY sez for your convenience, Miles’ article, highly recommended: https://substack.com/@milestaylor/note/c-239178105?r=60kbqc&utm_medium=ios&utm_source=notes-share-action

RESIST | FIGHT's avatar

That’s the stronger path.

The 25th can interrupt an immediate crisis, but impeachment, conviction, removal, and real investigation are what actually name the lawlessness and force the government to reckon with it.

Patricia Davis's avatar

Unfortunately, Shady Couch is still next in line with impeachment. But at least he’s not Bat S41T crazy with a finger on the nuclear button. And if Congress grows a pair, maybe that will keep him in check for fear of his own impeachment.

📎 McTwingles's avatar

All of that will take too long. We need a general strike now! And make it clear that we won’t end it until he’s out of power.

RESIST | FIGHT's avatar

That urgency is real.

A lot of people are at the point where ordinary timelines feel completely disconnected from the scale of the danger.

Joanne's avatar

The Republicans are in lockstep with Trump, echo his distorted attitudes against the constitution and our freedoms, chase the money men for support, are concerned with their own selfish desires, embrace corruption as their standard of conduct and in general, are as amoral as Trump. Expecting them to remove Trump as president is a pipe dream. The oligarchs have waited in the wings for enough years to gain control of our government that they won't let go now that they are in power. We are up against an entractable enemy, one equipped with unlimited funds and a determined support system intent on shredding our freedoms and humanity. Ironic we are in this decline as we celebrate our two hundred and fifty years anniversary. Empires rise and fall. History awaits ours.

Kathy Mazur's avatar

I agree, and will add…this is a multi-national effort to crush our country - Putin etc.

Have YOU and are YOU doing anything about this? Because, everyone needs to be involved in Saving Democracy!

Joanne's avatar

Kathy,

As my observations extend back to the years of Ronald Reagan and his efforts to remove the safety net for Americans in favor of the money men seeking government influence, I view the present attempt to corrupt the government as an insidious inner attack against our freedoms. No question Trump admires other authoritarian countries and fancies himself as a potential ruler of the world. His problem is he does not have the intelligence to be such a ruler. For myself, the sun is setting on how long I can put up opposition to our present dangers. At 88 years of age I am still able to protest with others in Hands Off, No Kings demonstrations, and encourage the importance to vote for progressive representatives to replace the corrupt Republicans. The battle is for the future not only of America but the very planet we call home.

RESIST | FIGHT's avatar

That’s the wall people keep running into.

It’s hard to imagine accountability coming from the same political machinery that has spent years protecting, enabling, and benefiting from all of this.

Joanne's avatar

"Political machinery" is such an apt description. Any concern for humanity no longer exists in politics, destroyed by greed and self promotion. We are most certainly watching the fall of a noble experiment in the best social structure for a government. Empires are always doomed to reach an expiration date. We've reached ours by our own hubris.

RESIST | FIGHT's avatar

What makes it feel so bleak is that the collapse is being driven from inside by people who traded public duty for appetite, ego, and power.

A society cannot hold if the people entrusted to protect it start feeding on it instead.

Pat M's avatar

The Democrats need to pull together as a strong unity and to speak louder and more in public! Democrats should be mad as hell. I also feel that Jeffries is a weak leader!

RESIST | FIGHT's avatar

That frustration makes sense.

People want opposition that actually sounds like it understands the scale of the emergency, not careful language while everything is burning.

Deb Chrystal's avatar

I doubt his cabinet , Vance or the majority of the GOP have the spines to do this… sadly

RESIST | FIGHT's avatar

That’s the problem.

The people with the power to stop this keep showing the country exactly how unwilling they are to use it.

Meg alfoni's avatar

Hollering for the 25th amendment may be a case of "beware what you wish for". What stands behind Trump in the hierarchy of government is almost worse than what he is. Better we place.our energies into the midterms.where we can gain conrtrol of the House and Senate and then use that power to impeach and hobble the the whole crew. Then in 2028 vote the entire rats' nest out! In the meantime, let the courts do their job, and we can continue to watch support for Trump and his administration crumble.

RESIST | FIGHT's avatar

That’s the warning built into all of this.

Removing one figure without dismantling the machinery behind him can still leave the same danger intact under a different face.

Leslie Martin's avatar

I don’t think there is any chance that his cabinet will vote for his removal. They are all as crooked as he is, and they need him to pardon them. Having said that, I still think it is important for “the people” and congress to call for the 25th amendment to be invoked. We all need to be pushing for his removal in all ways possible. At some point someone will have to so something.

RESIST | FIGHT's avatar

That’s where so many people are landing.

Even if the cabinet never acts, the pressure still matters because it keeps naming the danger and refusing to let this be treated as normal.

Denise Corradini's avatar

The Republicans and the cabinet are sycophants to Donald Trump, and there is no way that they are going to invoke the 25th. Unless he threatened to take away their wealth, they wouldn’t lift a finger against him.

RESIST | FIGHT's avatar

That’s the rot at the center of it.

When power and protection matter more to them than the country, people stop expecting conscience and start expecting self-preservation.

AAA's avatar

I honestly am NOT SURE what to do???!!! I WANT TO CRY!!! MY FATHER WOULD BE BESIDE HIMSELF watching us just giving up, so we don't break a rule, a law, or break a nail!!! Sorry, I'M getting depressed, helplessness is my downfall!!! I will have some tea and reset my brain!!! I may need cherry Pepsi!!!

I'm sure we will be regarded highly for following the law, while the enemy with-in destroys our country!!! This is our Holocaust, we have learned NOTHING from the past!!! If we don't save ourselves, how can we save ANYONE else!!!

RESIST | FIGHT's avatar

That helplessness is what this kind of crisis is designed to produce.

People are being pushed to the edge while the people with power keep acting like emergency is just another news cycle.

Don's avatar

The country is in crises. The longer this regime stays in power the more we suffer, and for a long time into the future. Where the hell is Congress? Where are the Democrats? They are not representing us, “We the People”. I protest several times a week. I contribute to Democratic candidates who I think can give us more power. I meet with local resistance organizations and try to figure out what else can we do! I beg Congress, but especially the Democrats to help me check this regimes’ power.

RESIST | FIGHT's avatar

That’s the rupture people are feeling everywhere.

A country in this much danger should not be watching its supposed representatives move like none of this is urgent.

Annominos's avatar

I wouldn't call the VP. Your name will probably go on a list.

''The Morning Work of Democracy: Democracy survives when ordinary people choose responsibility over despair''

Democracy is rarely saved by famous people in polished rooms. It survives because ordinary people keep getting up, showing up, and refusing despair. This essay is about the quiet courage of citizenship, and why the daily work of ordinary Americans may determine whether the republic endures. https://essayx.substack.com/p/the-morning-work-of-democracy

We The People have been sorely absent from We The People. We have let lawmakers make erroneous decisions for US. WE have not stood up for our own wants and needs—we have allowed officials to make decisions for US that they have no business making! We have allowed them to cheat from US, lie to US and steal from US and worse—we have re-elected them. WE have been silent while dollars replaced people and took over OUR Government and we never hollered “Hell No!”. Instead we whined and groaned and said “it doesn’t matter if I vote” so we didn’t vote. WE the People have created a Mess and expected Congress to fix it while Congress just takes the money and runs. If We The People really want Universal Healthcare, Childcare, the ERA made Law, denial of Citizens United, term limits for Congress and age limits for Congress and no lobbying, no insider trading, free education—we need to shout it out and now is a great time to do that while Democracy is weak and feeble. There’s a challenge for every American. Frankly, I doubt Americans have the Courage to stand up for themselves fearlessly. Freedom has a problem: We The People.

RESIST | FIGHT's avatar

This is the part too many people still don’t understand: the 25th Amendment is not something Congress can just announce into existence.

It only becomes real if the vice president and the cabinet decide the danger is real enough to act. Until then, people are left watching an obvious crisis while the people with the power to trigger it pretend they don’t see it.
