Last night’s election reminded us that the heartbeat of democracy still pulses strong. No matter how loud the noise or deep the division, people showed up, driven by conviction, hope, and the belief that their voice matters. Every ballot cast was a statement that freedom endures when citizens refuse apathy.
The problem is, there are real reasons for apathy. We can’t be blind to the faults, or fault people for cynicism in the face of large structural problems. We have to work hard to correct the course.
You’re absolutely right—apathy doesn’t come from nowhere. It’s often born from disappointment and fatigue with systems that feel unresponsive. But moments like last night remind us that change doesn’t happen when we withdraw—it happens when we engage, even imperfectly. Seeing people show up despite the frustration is what gives me hope that we can still steer this ship in the right direction.
Not to be forgotten: Governor Newsom took the question of whether to redistrict the electoral maps to the People rather than imposing it on them as the Republicans did in Texas and other RED states. The People of California have spoken. YES!
The redistricting in California will happen with the People's approval.
The Administration forgot about the American people’s strength in numbers and how we will continue to fight for our democracy. We defeated tyranny before and we will do so as often as we have to.
I’m very emotional this morning. I’m from Texas and have had little hope since the Trump Administration took office. These American’s make me feel democracy will prevail and proud to be among those fighting for our country.
I am so sorry! I am in SD and we are in a similar situation. Gerrymandered districts, one-party rule backed by dark money, unbelievable corruption, graft, grift, and fraud, and a Democratic Party that cannot even field candidates because those who try have their lives and businesses completely destroyed for daring to run. I too take hope from elections elsewhere!
Thank you Joan. I will continue to speak out for justice, free and fair elections. I see more people than ever taking a stand against hate and authoritarianism and that keeps me committed to the cause for ongoing democracy and the changes we need to see happen over our entire country.
Thank you for this recap. For reminding us of our power. Standing in line to vote, standing on street corners with signs. Resisting. Persisting. This is a good beginning. There’s a lot of work ahead. Are we ready for a general strike?
“Margaret, who’d finally voted earlier that evening and decided to stick around anyway, let out a sound I can only describe as a war cry.
Then she grabbed my arm.
“You tell people,” she said. “You tell them we did this. And we’ll do it again in 2026. And 2028. And every election after that until these people understand: you cannot intimidate Americans out of democracy.”
I voted on person in Gainesville florida. We had one thing on the ballot...taking back local control of utilities (that DeSantis installed his handpicked cronies in) last i saw we won with 75% of the vote. He is already talking about taking it to court. While I was standing in line behind 2 young men someone announced that they were first time voters! The room cheered and clapped and they looked both embarrassed and pleased. I thanked them with a big grin.
Democracy showed its teeth last night. Now it needs to keep chewing and reframe the message that Trump and his minions keep spewing. The Dems can and should stop responding to MAGA’s inane threats and questions and go on the offensive, and not necessarily politely. They need to remind Americans that Trump lost the popular vote. MAGA doesn’t speak for the majority of the people, but they want you to think they do. We have to get rid of the cryptic Electoral College and replace it with one person one vote. We’re not living in the 1800’s any more. Everything changes and everything needs revising when it outlives its usefulness!💪🇺🇸❤️🔥🫶🏼
I worked the polls yesterday and went to bed early. I found out the results at 7am this morning and I'm thrilled!! I texted the results of the PA supreme court judges to my kids
Yesterday Bob Marley’s “Get Up, Stand Up” lyrics became reality. Now we have to make sure that our elected democratic leaders do not get mired in the “DEI/Woke” trap that the GOP has used so effectively in the past to alienate voters against the Democrats. Take control of the conversation by focusing on issues that raise everyone up.

Keep on keepin on! Fight, rest, regroup and then back to the front. Fight like a Ukrainian!💪🇺🇦🇺🇸❤️🔥🫶🏼
Love your phrase: Fight like a Ukrainian!
Democrats won even in red Flathead county Montana.

As a Florida native living in Georgia since 1971, and sad that Florida seems lost for a generation, thank you from the bottom of my heart!

MAMDANI LED A SUCCESSFUL GRASSROOTS CAMPAIGN THAT ACCEPTED NO MONEY FROM CORPORATE DONORS.
Exactly what politicians can do. NOT accept corporate money! A grassroots movement is the answer to bringing We the People on board!
Escape the corporate world in every way we can by being part of a movement. The people’s movement to keep justice and honesty part of our country!
I admire Mamdani and what he stands for and all the election results we fought hard to win.
I am over the moon with happiness!!
