I am thrilled about ALL the results, most especially Abdul El-Sayed. I have always believed that for an engaged voter, $$ can only go so far in swaying the vote; while republicans seem to think that the more $$ you throw in for a candidate, the better the chance of winning. After this past year and a half, I think people are starting to open their eyes at the frequency of blatant attempts of the GOP to buy seats in the house, senate, and state supreme courts. People are fed up and needing candidates that are authentic, honest, diverse, and invested in working for the people they serve. I have increased hope that voters are truly getting more engaged in their democracy - even at the state level they were prepared and voted on the various issues they faced as a state, as we saw yesterday in Kansas and Missouri. I applaud the voters in all four states for knowing the issues and using their voices through their votes. This is the democratic way to change what we do not want from our leaders. We are powerful when we stand together!
That being said, I am also proud of fellow dems that know how important the fight against the status quo old-time Democrats is right now. I refuse to let them discourage me and I just want to encourage the young people that are voting for these changes to keep going......the old timers (of which I am one; but I'm also very much a progressive) have no right to dictate what you want or when you want it (looking at you James Carville-your time has come and gone, so butt out!) This is your generational battle to win.
The Republican Party needs a major clean up to rid the party of all the abusers, sexual predators, pedophiles, and racists. They have to cheat to win. They should no longer be relevant in our civilized society. They are the rot that is stinking up the entire country.
Spot-on observations. A battle is won, the war continues. It will take plenty of time to bring America back to the original purpose of 1776. Once in office, the proof will be in the pudding as we watch how actively the new members of our government work to promote the progressive ideals we want them to defend. Talk the talk is an opening, now they must walk the walk. It's our future at stake.
The Cori Bush result was not a progressive win… Wesley Bell was backed by AIPAC-aligned spending and Bush opposed AIPAC’s influence… the wins referenced here are El-Sayed, McKinney and Lawrence in Michigan, along with voters defeating the constitutional amendments in Kansas and Missouri. I included Bush’s loss because I didn’t want to present the night as a total sweep, but I’ll make that distinction clearer, thanks for flagging it!
I’m so happy Abdul El-Sayed won , he fights, he is not like the other democrats who sold their souls to corporations.
