Focusing on local politics

Local politics shapes daily life more than many people realize, thank you!

Yes, and we have MAGA type politicians to deal with! Never thought my paradise would be compromised so terribly!

The prejudice against our LGBTQ+ community, the mayor and 4 commissioners signed on with 287(g) so the police are completed with ICE…and more headaches Oy!!!

We have an election in August with a panel of new people to get rid of these awful politicians

That sounds exhausting, but it also sounds like you know what you're doing. Anti-LGBTQ+ hostility, local cooperation with ICE, and local elections all connect. The good news is that local damage can also be challenged when people stay organized. An August election with alternatives is not nothing. Keep up the good work!

We are hosting a free in-person event MINNESOTA RESISTANCE: LESSONS FOR MASSACHUSETTS in Boston on April 29, featuring new documentary film interviews from Minnesota and a panel of veteran organizers from the ACLU, MIRA Coalition, LUCE (who run the immigrant hotline), Dunk the Vote and the Boston Trainers Collective. Hosted by True North Action Alliance Boston and by the Suffolk Law School Immigrant Justice Clinic. Here is the link to RSVP

Thank you for sharing this. This looks like a strong opportunity for people in Massachusetts to learn from organizers doing work on immigrant justice!

Amy, the census counts everyone who lives here for apportionment, but that is not the same as voting, which requires U.S. citizenship in federal elections. The housing crisis was driven by years of underbuilding, with Freddie Mac estimating a national shortage of about 3.7 million homes. And undocumented immigrants are not “sitting home.” They make up a meaningful share of the workforce, including in industries like construction and agriculture. Scapegoating immigrants does not fix housing, wages, or the cost of living. These facts are important to understanding the harm mass deportations and ICE policies can cause to this country and to innocent families.
