How tiresome this is all becoming. Torrential Trump coverage. No respite. Turmoil begets tragedy, Trump is a master of both. And where are the Epstein files? Buried deep in dungeons of the DOJ, safely away from revelation to the public. America is but a shadow of what it was. We no longer shine. We are reduced to a dullness equal to the dimwitted dolt ensconced in the Oval Office. How sad. Try as hard as I do, being optimistic becomes more difficult daily. History tells me the odds are not in our favor. I'm pushing ninety, so limited time remains for me. Can the earth survive? Can humans? The planet is burning, global warming is real. We reap what we sow.
You have seen a lot in your lifetime, and your grief for what this country is becoming makes a difference. We may not be able to fix it all at once, but refusing to look away is still part of how we keep the light on. Thank you for being here <3
I watched the NYC fireworks show and then watched the DC fireworks show (both on tv). Thought the NYC show was awesome and the DC show was meh. The NYC show was well thought out and a beautiful choreography. DC didn’t seem to have any choreography just lots of the same type of fireworks blasting over and over.
My brother died Memorial Day weekend. I didn't really feel much like celebrating this fourth of July. He was in the Naval Reserve and would not have approved of the buffoonery surrounding this event.
I'm so sorry for your loss. A holiday built around service and country can feel especially painful when grieving someone who lived those values. Thinking of you! ❤️🩹
The Republican Party has been overtaken by Communism. When Trump spouts accusations they usually pertain to himself and his silent Party. I will fight against that with my last breath. I remember Communist bomb practices as a child when we had to quickly March to the school basement, cover our heads in case Russia bombed US. Just as I will fight for gun reforms to protect all people I will fight against Communism and Dictatorships and Fascism. No American should be forced to live under such threats or to have them misrepresented by any American President. The obvious solution would be to rid our society of the entire administration and prosecute the criminals including SCOTUS. It is also obvious that’s not going to occur—yet. In the meantime don’t speak out—Shout Out—Silence equals standing with them and not against them. I beg you if you are reading this, please Stand Up. Email your MOCS until they know you by name, repeatedly call (202-224-3121) and express what you are against or for, March as often as you can, join Indivisible or MoveOn and get trained and get to work. We are losing America and that reality also means we are losing ourselves and our lifestyles and what we have cherished. But not just that. Our kids and Grandkids will pay a horrid awful terrible price for what we do not do.
Trump doesn't give a shyt about the people. Had I been there, I'd probably have died from such severe air pollution.
When will people start marching in their streets - and stop waiting for the politicians to fix things. They're working their hiney's off and we sit and watch our phones. If you're not part of the solution you are PART OF THE PROBLEM !
Exactly why we keep saying to plug into your local groups. March, call, document, share, organize, bring a friend. None of us can do everything, but all of us can do something.
Schumer apologists asserted "what could he do? He's the minority leader!!"
Well- quite simply, he & the rest of us knew what trump was capable of via 50+ years of trump Org scams, fraud, civil lawsuits etc- right in Chuck's backyard.
We the People need(ed) someone who was awake, willing & able to get the entire country mobilized right after Musk (unelected, unqualified & unsupervised) started gutting federal agencies & programs (USAID etc). Schumer was too focused on his own book tour to do his job, when he speaks on the Senate floor or even in public, he read from note cards, prepared by some staff person (or lobbyist). NO PASSION & NO CONNECTION
When will we take to the streets? An excellent question indeed.
That pollution & health hazard was funded by our tax dollars. I strongly object to that overindulgence & lack of responsibility. Endangering those in the fallout area is criminal, akin to toxic polluters. How do we put up the guard rails about public safety, responsible spending, human costs? And the cherry on top is he slept during the event. All for spectacle, nothing for country.
By 8:00 P.M. the channel was full of smoke -- from fireworks, or beach fires, probably both. We set them off at midnight here in Alaska because it's too light otherwise.
Juneau goes all out, a big bang. It's the time when the whole community comes together, greenies and gear heads. We run the full spectrum here. My friends said "we're not celebrating our country so much, as celebrating our community." They wore the colors, and the denim, and the jorts. I wore army green fatigue. Celebration, resistance... to each their own. Xo.
Lots of fireworks ashes ended up in the beleaguered Reflecting Pool, which required yet another cleaning. Will the pool ever be respected again? Not for at least another two-and-a-half years.
I wanted to be kind to my neighbor. I went to Canada for the day!

Thank you. The part you play to keep the light on for our future is vital. Hope springs eternal. Without it we shall indeed perish.

NYC: choreography. 🎆
DC: red boom smoke machine. 😂
I couldn't believe my eyes. Straight up, red, boom. Boring. Clumsy. And soon smothered in smoke. Of course. Trump.
I am a bit worried about the people who were under it, or alongside it. MAGA folks who may not realize how unpleasant COPD is.
And I feel very sorry for the citizens of besieged DC. Wearing an N-95 mask in high heat 🥵
Fully agree!
Smoke, heat, crowds, and poor air quality = dangerous.

Hiked with friends to the grave of a Continental Army patriot, Joshua Smith, in the woods in Sandisfield, Mass, tidied it up and left American flags.
That is a beautiful way to spend the day, remembering someone who helped build the country

If taxpayer money is funding it, the public deserves safety standards!
Horrendous environmentally and a waste of our tax dollars
I worked and saw a few fireworks while driving home. Nothing crazy.
You couldn’t have paid me to be in DC July 4th. Sounds horrible.
“Couldn’t have paid me to be in DC” feels like the correct survival instinct here lol
Horrible…just like the doofus himself!
Watched PBS, celebrating they are still here!

Even the Reflecting Pool deserves a break from being dragged into this administration’s mess.
Polluted everywhere
Everywhere. The smoke, the waste, the noise, the whole thing felt like pollution in every sense.
