Our family of 4 walked out of work and school and stayed home after 2pm, avoiding all commerce (including online commerce). We weren't able to find an organized get together near us, and actually really appreciated unplugging. We messaged with friends and family that participated in their own way.

Love that you did it as a family!!

Five of us first-time organizers planned the West Hartford CT Free America Walkout in 9 days. 400 people sang, listened to our Attorney General Tong’s rousing address, heard from US Senator Blumenthal and others.

BEST PART: We danced through the Center led by a New Orleans style second line brass band in the freezing cold. It was a blast !! Got lots of local coverage. We are energized in resistance!!

I sooo love that! CT solidarity!!! New London's action was small but vocal!

Robin Gilmartin's avatar

Serena, I just followed you bc I want to build more of a CT network so we can support each other!

Hi Robin, 50501 has an active group in CT and we, too, are interested in building networks. If you are interested in helping us do that in other parts of the state email us at volunteer@ct50501.org. There’s a form here, too: https://www.ct50501.org/volunteer. Congrats on your great event and the excellent coverage!

Sure will, thanks Laurie!

My husband and I walked out of work and went to our local congressman's office to deliver letters reminding him that his duty is to the American people, not Trump and the billionaire class

Doubly meaningful walkout!

I called 25 Republicon Senators because I had to watch my grandson. Only 3 answered the phone. I left a message with these points:

- What are you doing to protect us from ICE?

- What are you doing to protect the rest of the world from us?

-This is why they wrote the 25th Amendment.

-You own this.

-Do something.

I love that you called the Reoublicans about this. I frequently call my reps who are all Democrats (Michigan) but I t0hink your idea of calling the Republicans is better. A little more challenging but worth it. I hope you don't mind, but I'm going to borrow your script.

karemm's avatar

Please do! I call my Maryland dems, but aside from Van Hollen, they arent making enough noise.

Holly Hunsicker's avatar

I also called my representatives. I do that frequently

Holly Hunsicker's avatar

They are all Republicans

I am in South Dakota, and often don't feel safe because of this. No protests here yesterday to join as I am rural and weather is bad to head to town. I joined online and did NO shopping. Now when I shop, I only shop at family owned, small stores not too far away. Keep resisting!

Our neighborhood democracy group consisting of about eight adults and seven children walked out and into a zine folding party. We were indoors, but visible to other patrons of the facility. We folded about 500 zines for distribution around our community.

So awesome! Great way to build community. We need that!

Perhaps slightly more than 50 people showed up at the courthouse in Summerville, SC. We were alternatively cheered/booed by people driving by in roughly equal numbers. Still cannot understand how anyone continues to support this administration.

I was the only one. I wore red white and blue and made a sticker that said no kings. I wore it on my jacket. I was ar a doctor's appointment and no one but the doc asked me about it. She said she would walk out if she could. My sister also left the house but there was no one to see her. I had to buy medication but nothing else. I felt alone in my protest. Not enough publicity. I don't think anyone in my small town in Texas was aware.

Robin Gilmartin's avatar

That’s courage and dedication! Ann Richards would be proud! I’m a native Texan transplanted to CT

You are not alone if you reading this. Thank you for your courage!

My husband and I (both elderly and retired) put our "ABOLISH ICE" signs in our car windows and drove around out local Home Depot parking lot for awhile. Also did NO spending. Posted about the event frequently on fb, called our 3 representatives about NOT funding ICE and encouraged family and friends to do the same. We will not give up.

Our little town on Long Island protest attracted a few hundred people - of all generations- in 25 degree weather for a rally and march!

In Poughkeepsie NY 75 people or more showed up at For The Many, a progressive organization with a strong track record building people power.

We had about 40 people at the Indivisible walkout in Roseburg, OR.

50501Arvada set up our Walkout at our usual Suday protest corner. 68 registered, over 200 showed up.

We believe that regular weekly protests help build a larger response, when nation-wide actions are called for. Thank you for using one of our frog photos.

That’s a big jump in participation👍

Berkshires County was COLD! Wind chill below 0. Great Barrington had maybe 60+ people. Pittsfield had about 40. Numbers might be low. I was in Pittsfield.

I took part in a “14 signs of fascism” demonstration, so I wasn’t out in the crowds, but a roving band of teenagers had gotten out of school and passed us chanting “This is what Democracy looks like.”

That is very inspiring🙏🏼
