Can I just say that I think having a “march” complement to a protest helps cement the idea of a movement? So if you are going to have speakers, have people march from point A to the speaking venue. It engages people and besides physically, it mentally moves the crowd towards a common goal. And the chanting helps engage as well. The difference in the energy of a protest when you march and when you don’t is palpable. I was at the National mall today and as wonderful as the speeches were—I loved Jamie Raskin, I just felt kind of lost wandering around with no set purpose other than to show people my sign and admire others cleverness and ingenuity. We need marching! Just my 2 cents (that I have left after this past week).
That depended on your local rally leader, I think. Mine, at a small local park, was also in place, but those of us near the road were regularly chanting and then cheering on drivers who honked in support, etc. But I agree... Without that it woulda felt like people just standing around w signs.
Same experience- were you in EC? People were leaving throughout. We need a mission of some sort and more visibility. It’s about the people gathering, not speakers.
I completely agree with movement and chanting. When people were talking the crowd was quiet and still. The lack of energy and excitement was witnessed by many Trump supporters.
We marched in Christiansburg Virginia. It was a mile and a third and 250 people did that March on both sides of the street. Then we met up with the static rally and as we arrived, it invigorated the rally. The whole event went on about another hour; I agree that marching when ever possible is really good.
Ps. I was in DC for the gathering. Turnout was great but energy wasn’t as high as I had hoped. I think all these separate gatherings need more local oversight to really get people excited and vocal.
We lined the streets of downtown Longmont, CO. About 1500-2000 folks, covered 2 long blocks, plus the median. The engagement of those driving by was fantastic…some folks were just passing through, but others were participating from their vehicles, honking, waving, holding signs out their windows. We saw a fair number of 🚗 🚙 and 🛻🛻 that circled back around the blocks the 2+ hours long rally.
Very few counter protestors—primarily disapproving looks from behind closed car windows, kinda like Grumpy Cat’s face 😠.
We did have a few guys in pickups, all known as “dick”, doing some “rolling coal” with their diesel truck exhaust in front of protestors, but our city Police Dept. took care of them!
All in all, it was a very good day for 🇺🇸 Democracy!💛
Yes I agree as well. I've been to 2 in dc and standing stagnat kills the momentum. We need to March to be seen in more than one location. Nyc marched like 20 or 30 blocks and so the whole city knew there was a protest. If you aren't around the national mall at the time of the event then you have no clue its going on..especially if the news outlets aren't covering them like they should.
I agree. We had a great turnout in Glenwood Springs, CO but zero chanting and no marching. Great lining the Main Street activation but I definitely think chanting is helpful and marching. 🙌💙🙌💙
I’m in SA, would be really interested in participating/ finding some sort of community “sign-making” activity before the protest. I’m an artist and I feel like it is the most honest way I can contribute. Also I think it would be a great way for some of us to get together and share resources; knowledge, ideas, maybe eggs lol.
It sounds like there is a miscommunication here. We are both commenting on this post without paying anything, and the person running The 50501 Movement is not clear with what you are talking about. Would you care to elaborate in a way that would point people in the right direction?
Does anyone know of parades of lawnmowers pushed by men wearing 50’s hats, shirts with ties, and boxer shorts happening at the same time as rumps birthday parade?
I wish arguing was even a thing. They don’t bother arguing now. They just do what they want, running over the Constitution like it’s a piece of toilet paper. But I agree in terms of messaging.
I feel in the big cities of protest, there may be scheduled speakers that are well known. This weekend in concord nh we had speakers. Just wondering if more prominent people were to come speak at any of the protests, not just in the big cities.
People who are experts in Medicaid, social security, lawyers in constitutional law, economics etc. To talk about the issues that affect all of us. I appreciate what all the organizers are doing for us and the protests. Getting people fired up about the illegal activities this administration is doing. Let’s get congressional leaders to come out and protest with us in small towns and cities to the big cities.
Just my two cents for the protesters. Thank you for listening.
Today, I was a part of a historical moment for democracy. I’ve marched before, but today brought out more people than I have ever witnessed in Santa Barbara. We are taking our country back to its ideals of democracy and empathy. We are a community of Americans who embody a passion for our fellow citizens, our immigrants, and our disabled.

No, idk where that is, what place EC means. But agreed, we need a mission.

I would like to see a gathering spot for veterans against tRump and especially republican veterans against tRump.
Agree - after 2 hours at the rally in the rain, people began to peel off before the march in my town.
Agree with this. Had the same feeling at a protest on Saturday.

Agreed, we need to march!
I agree with this and I also wonder where the momentum built on April 5th is now?
Fully agree! The movement through the city is electric!!
San Antonio/Austin!
We were there today, we will be there then!

I joined my local chapter of Indivisible. We have had sign making sessions before each protest.
Is there one for San Antonio? I couldn’t find it on the Indivisible website
50501 might be the one organizing it
Start making them and pass out at event. Start your own event w/ friends and neighbors.
Yes same!!

was it in SA or ATX?
Anyone who knows what Pussy Riot went through in Russia- on the scale of Nulvany. Look them up. They are bravely telling Americans to FIGHT BACK NOW!
Pussy Riot are heroes
To follow the leader, and go "subscribers only", is only going to hurt the RESISTANCE & MOVEMENT!
MANY can't afford it, even if it is less than a five dollar bill.
BE MORE LIKE CORY BOOKER!
We have subscriptions turned off. Is there a setting that I'm using wrong?
You claimed ‘paid subscribers only’.
There is the problem!
I promise, there has been absolutely no money earned from this Substack.
If you didn't pay, and can see this post.. you're proving my point.
It’s working for me okay.

I can’t afford it I can’t afford supplements because I can’t even afford food
We have subscription payments off. Can you elaborate?
I do not see anywhere that is asking for money
I’m sorry I’ve lost the context of our conversation
I'm subscribed and it's not costing me anything
He feels the same. Can't even barely afford to eat, but you want ‘pid subscribers only.’
Do better!
There's no paying involved in the 50501 movement.
Like I said, MOST can not afford it. I have your back, promise.
Oregon!!
Hope the theme is around Saving our Constitution. Magas will have a hard time arguing with that.
I wish arguing was even a thing. They don’t bother arguing now. They just do what they want, running over the Constitution like it’s a piece of toilet paper. But I agree in terms of messaging.
FL!
Great to have support from the "F"-state!
Michigan!!
Yes: Michigan!!!
New Mexico
Ohio!!!!
