Seemingly, most of US would rather whine on social media than get off our arses and actually make “good trouble” and I do not connote that with fear at all. Terror in America is in the process of normalizing as long as it’s You and not Me. Most of US aren’t afraid of much—we view the horrors of war, starvation, illness, and Trump as well as his predatory Cabinet daily. We are being indoctrinated and don’t even realize it! Juan Nicolas isn’t the first baby disregarded and he won’t be the last until WE rise up in large numbers about it. This will require more action than a quarterly March. It will require Action on the majority’s part—actually doing something other than texting. I don’t know why people aren’t sick and tired of the antics in the US; but I do know this: the Power for Good is All that can beat Evil and you choose.

Exactly! I'm so concerned about the DHS shut down because of the Democratic demands on ICE, ie, masking, cameras, badge numbers. It tells me that the occupation of our cities by ICE has already been normalized.
I'd been looking forward to going, and then at the last minute the daycare called - the baby had a fever. No one else could get her, so I had to cancel so I could pick her up. She's fine now. The Juan Nicolas story is hitting me hard this morning.
Honestly… getting that daycare fever call is exactly why this hits so hard. Babies need care and safety, not confinement. And thank you for making the effort in the first place, 50501 is built on people doing what they can, when they can... all efforts add up! :)

The child and her mother have been deported to Mexico. They left the family over the border in the middle of nowhere with a sick child. They don't care if the child dies, so long as it's out of their jurisdiction. What a fucking country!

Trump 2.0 is all about punishing the American public and further enriching the top 1%. They want to become so far removed from average Americans that they become completely untouchable.
There are way too many stories like Juan Nicholás' and his family. I learned about it and made calls to Dilly and have been doing many actions to shut down ICE and BCP. There is no possible defense of actions like these. This family was in the immigration process system and thrown away at such a vulnerable time. It is unconscionable and I truly don't understand anyone who believes the lies about immigrants in our county and the dehumanizing words and actions of this regime. These people are completely bereft of morals while often calling themselves Christians. I'm doing what I can to support immigrants in my community and demanding REAL progressive change. We don't need BCP or ICE, nor the homeland security that we currently have.
I have an interesting story. Our representative is Maxine Dexter, M.D. - a first-term Democrat representing Oregon's 3rd district. (She replaced a long-time congressman, Earl Blumenauer). Anyway -- she's been an absolute rockstar.
I've contacted her office several times to thank her for what she's doing to actively work against fascism, gov't overreach, ICE cruelty - you name it, she's doing it!
So yesterday, my husband (a Vietnam combat vet) and I went across town in person to visit her local Portland office. We brought a dozen donuts (from Voodoo Donuts; IYKYK) to thank her staff.
We went through some pretty extensive security (the donuts went through the metal detector, too!) . . . only to find out that her staff could not accept them because of ethics rules!
I laughed and said next time, I'd bring a Qatari 747 or some Swiss gold bars! With the MASSIVE corruption happening in the White House, our wonderful congresswoman (well, her staff) couldn't accept a box of doughnuts! But we still thanked them all, profusely.
I agree with posters who have expressed the feeling that this action was not publicized nearly soon enough, nor widely enough!
I know absolutely that there are many, many people who still want to get involved, but really aren't sure how. Please publicize these events sooner. (Maybe even send emails with the gigantic database of interested people you surely have, for one.)
I think your organizational skills leave a hell of a lot to be desired.
